Fall Plant Sale Updates

Our Solstice P-Patch Coordinating Team met last Sunday to discuss current business, including the upcoming Fall Plant Sale Saturday, September 19th. After careful discussion and consideration of the current social distancing requirements, we decided that we will run the plant sale for Solstice gardeners only.

If you are planning on some Autumn and Winter vegetable gardening, consider purchasing your starts from the P-Patch! If you've never tried gardening over the Winter, this may be the year to dig in...we are planning to collect some wisdom from our experienced fall/winter gardeners to demystify how to do so. I am personally excited about this since I am not an experienced cold weather gardener, but I've been wanting to try for years! It'll be a great time to learn something new. Some of the potential veggie starts we hope to have for sale (pending good growth) include:

Broccoli - DiCiccio and Purple Sprouting)

Brussels Sprouts (Roodnerf and Snowdrop Kalettes)

Cabbage (January King, Violaceo di Verona)

Cauliflower (Amazing)

Fennel (bulbing not the herb)

Kale (Bolshoi, Dero Di Toscano, Portuguese - Beira Tronchuda, and Red Russian)

Lettuce (Artic King, Meraviglia d'Inverno Italian, Newhart Romaine)

Mustard Greens (Dragon's Tongue)

Radicchio, Endive, and other Chickory varieties

Spinach (Tundra)

Swiss Chard (Electric Neon)

Don't those names sound fancy? I feel compelled to try some Electric Neon Swiss Chard because it must be special with a name like that.

Perennials and other ornamental plants will be saved for next spring's plant sale.

We are currently researching logistics, including the possibility of making this a virtual plant sale. We will have more details after our next meeting September 5th! In the meantime, here are some pictures of the seedlings we planted at the fall seed planting party. Thank you Sandra and Kara for the photos!
